Drugs have been in existence since time immemorial. Even in the past, people used to use them. Hallucinogenic mushrooms are among the earliest known drugs in human history. They did not have to be planted as they could be found anywhere. This however does not mean that drugs are good for anybody. It is important to note that drugs were in such high usage then because no scientific studies in relation to the use of drugs had been conducted. In the past, the only known drugs were those that grew naturally, and hence the reason for the different reactions in people who used drugs then and those who use them now.
Technology and science have helped in the advancement of many fields and sadly one of the fields is that of drug manufacturing. A lot of drugs today are engineered in laboratories and then sold to the ignorant population. In the drug manufacturing laboratories, a lot of dangerous chemicals are combined to come up with final drug, thereby making modern day drugs very potent. Most of these chemicals affect the takers’ power of reasoning and hence the reason why most of them keep on going for more even when they know they are wrong for them. In this article we will be looking at the effects of two of the most commonly abused drugs in society today.
The first drug we will be looking at is cannabis. Marijuana is another name for this drug though a lot of youths prefer to call it weed. Cannabis has been made legal in a number of states today because of a number of studies that have shown that it can be used to treat a number of ailments. It is however important to note that cannabis, just like alcohol numbs one’s central nervous system and hence the reason why most users of this drug are slow in reacting to situations. In the long term, cannabis brings about paranoia and schizophrenia, especially in those who start using at an early age.
The second drug we will be looking at is cocaine. Cocaine is a stimulant that has the tendency of giving the user a high for some minutes. After the buzz, you will experience a crash and this is when you will crave more of the drug here hence the reason why this drug is one of the most addicting. Since this drug fastens one’s heart rate, its users are in danger of having heart attacks or strokes. Some of the most common effects of cocaine are loss of weight, sleep deprivation, hallucinations, psychosis and collapse of the septum because the snorting of cocaine through the nose creates sores in the nose.
